In-Home
Counseling

    • Initial Assessment: Gretchen will meet with you and your child in the comfort of your home to conduct an initial assessment. This includes a comprehensive DC:05 assessment, which is a specialized diagnostic tool for infants and young children. This allows for a deeper understanding of the child's developmental and relational context.

    • Tailored Treatment Plan: Based on the assessment, Gretchen will create a personalized treatment plan. This plan may involve CPP (Child Parent Psychotherapy), a dyadic, trauma-informed therapy that focuses on strengthening the parent-child bond and repairing relationships. The plan can also incorporate other trauma-informed approaches like EMDR when appropriate for the child's age and developmental stage.

    • Ongoing Therapeutic Sessions: Sessions will be scheduled at a convenient time for the family. The in-home setting provides a safe and familiar space where therapeutic work can be done, from play therapy with the child to guided discussions and skill-building with the parents. The goal is to provide a holistic approach to healing within the family system.

    • Who is this service for? In-home counseling is designed for families with children ages 0-10, as well as for new mothers or expectant parents struggling with perinatal and postpartum mental health challenges.

    • What are DC:05 assessments? DC:05 is a diagnostic classification system specifically designed for mental health and developmental disorders in infants and toddlers. It helps to accurately identify and understand a child's needs from a very early age.

    • How does EMDR or CPP work for young children? Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) is an evidence-based therapy that works with the parent-child pair to restore a sense of safety and attachment after a traumatic experience. While traditional EMDR is more common in adults, Gretchen utilizes modified, play-based versions that are appropriate and effective for the specific developmental needs of children.

    • What should I expect during a session? Sessions are collaborative and child-centered. They may involve therapeutic play, structured activities, and guided conversations with both the child and parent(s) to address the identified concerns and build healthier family interactions.
